the great russian revolution

Sharapova, Myskina, Dementieva, Zvonereva, Safina, Kuznetsova, Bovina, Petrova. They have arrived and a huge reception awaits. The Williams are rusty, the Belgians are injured/sick, the veterans in Davenport and Capriati are waning. Without these dominant factors oozing the demeanour they used to command on the womens tour with their slick movement and powerful groundstrokes, the Russians have wormed up and they expect nothing less of hanging around with them. For the first time in the annuals of tennis, Russia holds two Grand Slams. Interestingly, the power quadraplet of Venus, Serena, Jennifer and Lindsay account for none. Is the dominance of tennis amongst American females demeaning? Fed Cup and the Olympics shall shed light and of course the US Open, where the home favourites will be summoning all their experience in Flushing Meadows to impede the revolution. But for now, Maria Sharapova is the Russian name. Beating the top players is their game. If anyone dares to complain about the depth of womens tennis, expect some *uhhh-ah!* from the girls.
